Patty Heyda is Associate Professor of Urban Design and Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis. She draws on her professional experiences across the disciplines to study uneven impacts of the political economy on American cities, lived space and design. Her book, Rebuilding the American City (Routledge, 2016, co-author D. Gamble), details paradigms and tensions of American urban design and planning in fifteen US cities in the new millennium. Heyda’s Erasure Urbanism publications and InvisibleCities and Ferguson Primer (forthcoming) use drawings to spatialize cross-sector political processes articulated with exclusions and inequality on St. Louis sites.
