Imagining corn fields and wind turbine farms as construction materials, this visual essay is organized around the design and construction of a single brick wall during a semester-long studio course. What follows is a reflection on construction, details, local materials and labor as methods for interrogating the possibility of a pedagogy-beyond-extraction for architecture. The studio tested the possibility of construction that does not rely on “elsewhere” for the stuff and people that comprise and build buildings and does not borrow from other times and geographies.
