De-Colonizing Indigenous Housing

During the Spring 2021 semester, I led a studio of advanced graduate students at the Yale School of Architecture, examining the design of Indigenous housing. Going into the studio I knew that the pedagogical objects were intentionally different than any other studio I have taught in my previous twenty years of studio instruction. It was my intention to develop a way of thinking about design for Indigenous people as opposed to concrete, deployable solutions that would mitigate the housing crisis facing these communities. I learned many lessons myself.
