Design as Scholarship | Submission Guidelines
JAE seeks conceptually innovative design work, studio teaching, and
exhibition projects that explore critical issues in contemporary
design, practice, education, and discourse. The editors are interested
in work that understands the design process not just as a formal
proposition but as a mode of critical inquiry. Alternative strategies
for the presentation of this work -- interviews and other forms of
collaborations between designers and critics, writers, or scholars, for
instance -- are welcomed.
The author's name, nor the names of any project
participants, should not appear in the submission. Authors may only
have one design manuscript under consideration at any given time.
Submissions are reviewed at semi-annual juries by the Design Committee, a panel of design educators and professionals assembled from the JAE Editorial Board. The submission will be available to the jury members for advance review. The graphic format should anticipate how the project will appear in the publication. Projects provisionally accepted at the jury undergo an editorial process following the recommendations of the Design Committee and in consultation with the Design Editor. Revised and formatted submissions approved by the Design Editor are forwarded to the Executive Editor for final acceptance.
When submitting, follow these manuscript requirements. JAE Submission Formatting Guidelines.
